Short Bio
Boston-based photographer, Daniel Portal, is interested in exploring the human condition, in particular, in the forces that influence people’s lives and how they shape their souls. Daniel shows an interest on people whose lives are trapped, whether by inner conflicts or by war and violence.
When working with people, Daniel strongly favors the establishment of a deep connection, spending time getting to know the subjects personally. This enables him to establish trust, which shows across his work. To emphasize the people in the photographs, Daniel uses simple lighting and post processing, enabling the character being photographed to shine. In addition, Daniel uses long exposures and sequential images to portray disturbing or conflicting feelings and personal conditions.
